Skonflix Overview & Editorial Review
When a young man named Ramiro unexpectedly reconnects with his estranged childhood friend Damián after years of zero communication, he quickly discovers that Damián is still embroiled in shady schemes and risky illegal gambits. Damián pitches an alluring opportunity to recover a valuable hidden treasure supposedly buried inside a forgotten, long abandoned Catholic convent, convincing Ramiro to join the expedition. Deeply suspicious of Damián's true motives and worried for her partner's safety, Ramiro's observant girlfriend Lara insists on tagging along to oversee the covert break in. However, as the trio infiltrates the decaying religious compound and disturbs the sacred relics to extract the treasure, they unwittingly desecrate a sacred burial site and unleash a terrifying ancient curse. Trapped within the sprawling, maze like corridors of the haunted convent as vengeful paranormal forces awaken around them, the treasure hunters face a gruesome supernatural entity that relentlessly stalks them, realizing too late that their only hope of escaping with their lives is to return the stolen treasure exactly as they found it before the curse claims their souls permanently.
Directed by Nicolas Rios from a screenplay penned by Magui Bravi and Hernan Moyano, Black Gold (2024) is an atmospheric Argentine indie supernatural horror adventure film produced by Misil Producciones, Pluma Cine, and Closer Films. Operating on a compact, highly focused lean runtime of just sixty four minutes, the creative team crafted an eerie gothic atmosphere inside real world abandoned architectural locations, relying on shadowy low key lighting, claustrophobic camera framing, and haunting ambient sound design to build constant tension. By blending classic gothic ghost stories with a tense urban exploration narrative, the production team maximized their independent budget to deliver visceral jump scares and grounded practical effects throughout the nightmarish convent exploration sequences.
Releasing across digital video on demand services including Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, and Google TV in 2024, the indie horror feature stars Magui Bravi as Lara, Facundo Salomon as Ramiro, Agustin Olcese as Damian, and veteran actor Roly Serrano as the investigating Detective, supported by Gabriela Bocalandro, Estefany Perez, and Evelyn Gasser. Indie horror enthusiasts and Latin American genre cinema fans appreciated the film for its tight, fast moving pacing, strong lead performances, and effective use of sacred gothic iconography. Delivering an entertaining, chill inducing moral fable about greed and sacrilege, the digital horror release offered a fun, thrilling watch for audiences seeking fresh international supernatural horror stories.
