Dispatched to investigate a sudden communication blackout at a remote, snowy research station in rural Maine, experienced field courier Brian discovers that the facility has been completely overrun by terrifying bio engineered abominations created by a shadowy pharmaceutical conglomerate. Trapped inside the sprawling subterranean compound alongside a small group of traumatized survivors, Brian uncovers classified documents revealing that a viral outbreak has mutated the research staff into aggressive, flesh eating monstrosities and horrifying, specialized bioweapons. As the facility's automated containment protocols initiate a countdown toward total sterilization, the dwindling group must navigate dark claustrophobic hallways, manage scarce ammunition, and solve complex security puzzles to reach the surface before the entire structure collapses. With lethal creatures stalking them from the shadows and a treacherous internal sabotage threatening their escape, Brian is forced to make nerve wracking tactical decisions, relying on sheer survival instincts and raw willpower to protect his companions and escape the nightmare with proof of the corporate conspiracy.
Written and directed by Zach Cregger (Barbarian), Resident Evil (2026) is a feature horror reboot produced by Constantin Film and Screen Gems, serving as a fresh cinematic reinvention of Capcom's iconic survival horror video game franchise. The production team intentionally moved away from the bombastic action sequences of earlier film adaptations, prioritizing slow burn psychological dread, practical creature effects, claustrophobic set designs, and immersive spatial geography reminiscent of early video game level layouts. Filmed on custom built soundstages and snowy outdoor locations in Prague, the filmmakers crafted a dark, atmospheric visual style utilizing heavy shadows, minimalist lighting, and visceral practical gore to capture the authentic, terrifying spirit of classic survival horror.
Premiering in theaters worldwide in September 2026, the horror entry stars Austin Butler as Brian alongside a strong supporting cast including Josh Brolin, Sophie Wilde, and Paul Walter Hauser. Horror enthusiasts and video game fans widely praised the reboot for its terrifying jump scares, faithful homage to survival mechanics, relentless tension, and standout practical monster designs that grounded the horror in tangible physical reality. Delivering a pulse pounding, edge of your seat cinematic experience, the theatrical release proved to be a major box office success, successfully launching a promising new chapter for the enduring horror franchise.
