Skonflix Overview & Editorial Review
When an investigation into a mysterious wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary destabilizes the universe, Carol Danvers known as Captain Marvel finds her powers unexpectedly entangled with those of her estranged niece, astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau, and Jersey City teenage superfan Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel. Every time one of the three heroines uses her light based abilities simultaneously, they instantly swap physical locations across galaxies, forcing them to navigate high chaos situations while learning to work in sync. The trio discovers that Dar-Benn, a vengeful Kree leader armed with a powerful ancient bangle matching Kamala's, is siphoning natural resources like atmosphere, water, and sunlight from worlds associated with Carol to restore her dying homeworld, Hala. Teaming up alongside Nick Fury and Kamala's family aboard the S.A.B.E.R. space station, the dynamic heroes must stop the ruthless dictator's planetary destruction spree, mend past family grievances, and repair the damaged continuum before the collapse of interdimensional boundaries destroys multiple star systems entirely.
Directed by Nia DaCosta from a screenplay she co wrote alongside Megan McDonnell and Elissa Karasik, The Marvels (2023) serves as a direct sequel to Captain Marvel (2019) while seamlessly continuing storylines from the Disney+ original series WandaVision and Ms. Marvel. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the fast paced cosmic adventure emphasizes visual comedy, creative location swapping action choreography, and colorful galactic world building. The production team designed complex, highly synchronized stunt sequences to highlight the instant teleportation dynamics between the leads, pairing the physical fights with vibrant digital visual effects and a heroic, lighthearted score composed by Laura Karpman.
